Ontario PCs Cutting Red Tape to Protect Jobs and Build Ontario Faster

Under the leadership of Doug Ford, Ontario’s PCs are taking another major step to cut red tape, speed up approvals and make Ontario the most competitive place to invest and create jobs in the G7.

Today, we introduced the Building Ontario Faster Act, 2026, which would eliminate nearly 220,000 days in government permit processing times, helping businesses spend less time navigating bureaucracy and more time investing, expanding and creating good-paying jobs.

With President Trump’s tariffs continuing to threaten Ontario workers and businesses, unnecessary delays that hold back investment and economic growth cannot be allowed to stand.

That’s why the Ontario PC team is taking action to make it faster and easier to get shovels in the ground, strengthen supply chains and build a more competitive, resilient and self-reliant economy.

The proposed legislation would:

  • Cut permitting delays: Streamline government approvals and eliminate nearly 220,000 days in permit processing times so businesses can invest and grow faster.
  • Reduce red tape: Continue reviewing all 375 business-facing permits, with the goal of eliminating, streamlining or transforming up to 50 per cent by the end of 2028.
  • Protect Ontario workers: Reduce Ontario’s reliance on the United States for waste disposal and strengthen economic resilience in the face of U.S. tariffs.
  • Get critical infrastructure built faster: Accelerate major projects, including cutting construction timelines for the expansion of Highway 69 by up to five years.
  • Break down interprovincial barriers: Make it easier for skilled workers from across Canada to work in Ontario and help businesses fill critical jobs.

Ontario’s PC team is already delivering results. In just the first year of its permit review initiative, Ontario reviewed more than half of all business-facing permits and eliminated, streamlined or transformed 65 per cent of those reviewed.

These latest measures build on our record of cutting the regulatory burden by nearly six per cent, saving people and businesses $1.3 billion and nearly 1.9 million hours.

While President Trump’s tariffs create uncertainty for workers and businesses, Doug Ford and the Ontario PC team are focused on what can be controlled: cutting costs, removing barriers, attracting investment and creating the conditions for Ontario businesses to succeed.

The message is clear: Ontario is open for business, and the Ontario PCs will keep cutting red tape, building faster and protecting Ontario workers and jobs.

That’s how we’re is delivering on its plan to Protect Ontario.
